These terms govern your use of the Cognito terminal and website, provided by Cognito Markets. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. They are written to be read, so please do.
What Cognito is
Cognito is a market information and analysis service. It gathers economic data, bond market data, positioning data, central bank statements, news headlines and research notes, organises them by currency, and presents analysis built from them. It is a tool for your own judgement. It is not a broker, it does not execute trades, and it does not manage money.
Not advice
Nothing on Cognito is personal financial advice, investment advice or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything. The analysis is general, is produced without regard to your circumstances, and may be wrong. Any decision you make on the basis of it is yours alone. If you need advice, take it from someone authorised to give it.
Your account
You must be at least 18 and give accurate details when you register. Your account is personal to you: keep your password to yourself, do not share your login, and tell us at once if you think it has been compromised. You are responsible for what is done through your account.
Subscription and payment
Access is by paid subscription, billed in advance for the period you choose. Payment is taken by Stripe. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for, and we do not refund the unused part of a period except where the law requires it. We may change our prices; if we do, the change applies from your next renewal and we will tell you first.
Acceptable use
The service is for your own use. You may not resell it, share access to it, scrape or bulk-export its content, redistribute the data or analysis it shows, reverse-engineer it, interfere with its operation, or use it for anything unlawful. Third-party data shown in the terminal remains subject to its providers’ terms.
Content and ownership
The terminal, its design, code and analysis are owned by Cognito Markets or its licensors. Your journal entries remain yours; you give us only the licence needed to store and show them to you. Research notes are published under licence from their authors and are provided for your own reading.
Availability
We aim to keep the service running and its data current, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or complete. Data comes from third parties and can be late, revised or wrong. We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and we may suspend access to protect the service or other users.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any trading loss, lost profit or other loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service, or from any inaccuracy in it. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the subscription fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Ending things
You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, with notice where we reasonably can. On closure your access ends, and your data is handled as the Privacy Policy describes.
The legal bits
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. We may update these terms; the current version is always at this address, and significant changes will be notified to account holders.
